Old vineyards sum up to 22 hectares. They are in schist soils at 450 mt altitude, planted with mixed red varieties, low training and reduced guyot. Vine training method is Gobelet, to ensure a good longevity of the plants and allow it to preserve the vineyard and guarantee permanence and coherence of our wines’ style. Amongst tenths of varieties, there’s a special focus on Touriga Franca, Rufete, Tinta Roriz, Alicante Bouschet, Tinta Barroca and Touriga Nacional.

Next in age we have 26 hectares of vineyards with about 50 years old.

This is a more organized crop and blocks, at 450 metres, order it. We have Touriga Franca, Bastardo, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca, in schist soils, with relatively low training, to allow good and balanced maturations.

Old vineyards of white grapes have Rabigato but also other traditional Douro varieties, such as, Síria, Gouveio, Boal, Donzelinho Branco and Folgasão, amongst other. They are in granitic soils at about 600 metres, have very low yields and are touchingly fascinating.

In 2007 we planted the highest vineyards at 600 metres in very well drained soils of granitic sand, in an area of the Plateau close to Sebadelhe. The grape varieties are Códega do Larinho, Alvarinho, Arinto, Síria and a little of Grüner Veltliner.

It’s 4 hectares of Douro varieties and only half hectar of Grüner, which is entirely used for Conceito Sparkling Brut Nature. Vine training is in Unilateral Royat, short pruning and wide sun exposure to ensure very sane grapes, concentrated and balanced in acidity.

In 2012 we planted 3.5 hectares of Rabigato at 450 metres, in schist soils in Veiga, on a slope turned to Teja. We also planted 1 hectare of several red varieties (Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, Alicante Bouschet, Tinta Francisca, Baga and Sousão). The results were so fascinating we have decided to plant 8 more hectares of red varieties (Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, Alicante Bouschet, Tinta Francisca, Baga, Sousão, Tinta Miúda, Donzelinho Tinto, Tinta Barroca, Tinta da Barca, Português Azul, Tinta Amarela and Rufete). This time we chose a specific location for each grape to optimize its characteristics. Slope, depth of the soils, humidity, sun exposure, etc. was all considered to find the perfect match. The idea was to respect old vineyards that were planted with similar principles to these. Thus, the goal was to leave old vineyards in the legacy, not only aged vineyards.
